With Saddiq now out of Bersatu, will Mahathir lose his ‘youthful voice’?

Malaysian Mirror       Friday, July 17, 2020
On 7 July, former Bersatu Armada chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman announced on his social media account that he is moving on and letting go of his past with the party. In his statement, Syed Saddiq also stated that he will be retracting the civil suit against Bersatu on his sacking from the party, in which the other sacked-four namely Tun Mahathir, Dr. Maszlee Malik, Datuk Marzuki Yahya dan Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah have not done. This shows that Syed Saddiq is ready to be ‘partyless’ by now while retaining his Muar constituency unlike the remaining four. Does this imply that Syed Saddiq is open to any better offer? Was his action to give up Bersatu discussed with Tun Mahathir prior to his statement?

An image of Syed Saddiq spending time with Dato’ Seri Najib Razak’s son, Ashman, was shared by his elder brother Syed Abdullah Syed Abdul Rahman on the latter’s social media account has recently raised eyebrows. Ashman, who is seen smiling happily with Syed Saddiq’s pet cat and Syed Abdullah, seems to be having a very close friendship with the siblings despite Syed Saddiq’s political stance and what Najib Razak has been popular for. Was Syed Saddiq influenced by someone to give up and move on? Has he gone tired of the internal petty matters in Pakatan Harapan (PH) that was amplified by his most-respected Tun Mahathir? Indeed, finding himself in a "Catch-22: situation right now, perhaps Syed Saddiq has made the right move to let go of Bersatu, but is he going to leave Tun Mahathir too?
