Politics is a brutal game in Malaysia!

Malaysian Mirror       Saturday, May 2, 2020

Politics is a brutal game in Malaysia and it has always been because of Tun Mahathir. He stepped down after 20 years and appointed Abdullah Badawi as 5th Prime Minister. Once Abdullah Badawi’s son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin meddled with Tun Mahathir’s cronies and sons' projects, he forced Abdullah Badawi to hand over powers to Najib Razak knowing very well that Najib took bribe in the Submarine Scandal and his  wife Rosmah Mansor had finished off Altantuyaa. To say the least we ended up with the 1MDB debacle.

Once Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was sacked, Tun Mahathir promised to help him avenge on Najib Razak at any cost including teaming up with Tun Mahathir’s former protégé Azmin Ali. While Anwar Ibrahim was in prison, he had no say in Tun Mahathir and Azmin Ali hijacking Pakatan Harapan – all he wanted was to leave prison. Hence, the deal of the century, a marriage of necessity by absolute rivals, one using the other for the sole purpose of falling the titanic UMNO government – Lim Kit Siang and Tun Mahathir riding on DAP’s propaganda campaigns, Tun Mahathir’s pitiful pleas and Najib Razak’s arrogance and stupidity.

Nevertheless, Tun Mahathir knew although he could swing the Malay heartland votes, the hardcore rebellious opposition wanted Anwar Ibrahim  to lead after two years. And why two years? It was the time period Tun Mahathir could delay Anwar Ibrahim’s pardon.

Then on began Tun Mahathir’s miscalculations. The injustice on Anwar Ibrahim got reversed quickly and soon became an MP lining up to take over premiership, to the ire of Azmin Ali and Muhyiddin Yassin who wanted Tun Mahathir to last the whole term. Meanwhile DAP and Amanah got into Azmin Ali and Muhyiddin Yassin’s nerves and Tun Mahathir’s plea for a unity government got rejected. Consequently, Tun Mahathir lost out to Muhyiddin Yassin and Azmin Ali’s Sheraton Part 1. However, Malaysia's political brutality didn’t just end there. This time it was Hamzah Zainudin and Mohamad Hasan who showed their colours to Azmin Ali, and Azmin Ali couldn’t reach his aim of becoming the Deputy Premier just yet.

Cunning as always, Tun Mahathir had showed calm and knew Azmin Ali would come begging once again. He waited for the sake of his incompetent son Muhkriz Mahathir. As we will soon know, with a fragile government of less than two months and an 'imprisoned' country, Azmin Ali is at it again. This time, his solo act Sheraton Part 2 has a bigger game plan and bigger aim….the premiership for him with Muhkriz Mahathir as his deputy. Let’s wait and see for it to unfold in a few days.
