SHERATON PART 2 - Tun Mahathir's Second Shot at Power

Malaysian Mirror       Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Who would have thought that in the midst of the global and national pandemic and solving economic problems, Malaysian political leaders continue to create more conflicts in their parties to grab power? Names like Tun Mahathir, Dato’ Seri Najib Razak, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Dato’ Seri Abdul Hadi Awang have always appeared in the media for their moves and statements about the chaotic local political scenario. Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, though seems to keep mum over all this, is certainly doing his bid in finding his ‘way out’ from the resistance he has received. While Tun Mahathir's camp is trying to pull Bersatu back into Pakatan Harapan (PH), Muhyiddin’s supporters are finding ways for Bersatu to remain in Perikatan Nasional (PN). The issue of whether they both have enough numbers to form a government is still bleak. In PH alone, there has been a ‘rift’ as Tun Mahathir is trying to takeover PH leadership from Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and aims to hold the premiership once again.

The question now is, where do the people stand in determining their leaders for the country? If the people’s mandate in GE-14 is to be followed, they voted for Anwar Ibrahim to lead the nation after two years but why is Tun Mahathir maintaining his selfishness - initially dumping PH now wanting to rejoin after bad mouthing Anwar Ibrahim? What sort of government can we expect even if Tun Mahathir wins this tussle. There is no coherence between him and Anwar Ibrahim in leading the country? This is especially since the arrangement between him and Dato' Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal in proposing a motion of support in his favor is for both of them to form the federal government, together with the support of PH thus making Tun the Prime Minister for the unthinkable third time and the Warisan president as the Deputy Prime Minister.

While Tun Mahathir had abandoned Sheraton Part 1 leading for Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali to take over, this time around, he  does not want to make any more mistake. His treachery of the people's mandate is despicable and full with malice and rots to the core. What he has done and is continuing to do is unrighteous especially during the month of Ramadhan and we hope The Almighty will cease his actions once and for all. May God lead us to do right on his many wrongs. Not justice but right.
