He is no longer the chairman of Bersatu, neither he is the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH) but Tun Mahathir is still adamant of becoming the leader in the opposition by coining PH Plus with the help of the "official yes man" Lew Chin Tong, sidelining PKR and opposition leader Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Who let down PH by signing without cause and not handing over the baton to Anwar Ibrahim as per the people’s mandate in May 2018?
On 4 June 2020, Tun Mahathir held a meeting with PH coalition leaders namely Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, Warisan president Dato’ Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, DAP national organizing secretary Anthony Loke, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Bersatu former secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya, and his loving son Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as shared on his social media account. Unsurprisingly, PKR was not represented as they had also boycotted Tun Mahathir's press conference on 18 May. It is believed that DAP are being the usual intermediary between him and PKR, as they had been in the PH cabinet, to please the old statesman.
The right climate of their relationship can be seen during the subsequent meeting on the same day, without Tun Mahathir, Shafie Apdal and Mukhriz Mahathir at Anwar Ibrahim's house in the presence of the latter and PKR and PH secretary general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution. Here at the meeting, Anwar Ibrahim hinted on ‘a big change’ soon without Tun Mahathir's block. It is crystal and obvious, ever since Tun Mahathir let down PH and Anwar Ibrahim, both of them are not meeting eye-to-eye. This distance has been further exemplified by the leakage of Tun Mahathir's conniving utterance on the 23 February 2020 audio clip.
On the same day, numerous party meetings were held by various parties as if there is no MCO. Muafakat Nasional did too, and particularly Bersatu in which Tun Mahathir and his clan walked out, due to the discussion on their official sacking and the party’s pledge of support to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the party’s president, chairman, and 8th Prime Minister.
With some breakaway from UMNO and Bersatu MPs making their move out of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and into PH, Anwar Ibrahim is on roll picking up steam to crush Muhyiddin Yassin very soon.
