Six months is long enough for anyone to work on a plan to either win or lose in a battle. What more the political scenario in Malaysia that is currently full of game plans and schemes by various parties. Pakatan Harapan (PH) is reported to have not reached a mutual understanding on the PM candidate selection as PKR and its president Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim have stood firm on rejecting Tun Mahathir. DAP national organizing secretary Anthony Loke initially pressured PKR to agree on their decision to select Tun Mahathir as their PM candidate for the term of six months. Then Amanah president Mohamad Sabu also made similar urge to PKR to follow the plan by reassuring that once the six months is over, Anwar Ibrahim will be the 10th Prime Minister. The reassurance that Anthony Loke gave to PKR on firstly making Tun Mahathir 9th Prime Minister was the existence of “a mechanism” that will ensure that Tun Mahathir fulfills his promise to pass the premiership baton to the opposition leader.

In actual fact, Tun Mahathir can do wonders within that six months and if Anwar Ibrahim takes that chance, he will only risk his political career for good. He should have learnt from history that the 8th former prime minister had abused, mistreated, and broke his promises to him that he almost lost his dignity and pride. The imprisonment, humiliation, physical and emotional hurt caused by Tun Mahathir should not be taken lightly by Anwar Ibrahim despite him being a very patient man. The agreement can be breached and changed at any time once the nonagenarian secures power. It is important to have good faith in others but unfortunately Tun Mahathir has not been showing any, so why must Anwar Ibrahim give in?

By right, Anwar Ibrahim should not let himself be played by Tun Mahathir anymore. More importantly, the PKR president must remember that the people are also tired of the old man’s games and have lost faith in the latter’s leadership. If he accepts the so-called term agreed by DAP and Amanah, he will not only be risking his own career and the coalition, but also the people’s future.
