After abandoning the country, how could The King appoint Mahathir as the 9th Prime Minister even if he has the numbers as falsely claimed by Shafie Apdal?

Tun Mahathir’s relentless yakking to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Perikatan Nasional (PN) since the notice on the Parliament sitting itinerary was released has become louder. At first, he thought he could be elated when his letter on the motion of no confidence against the prime minister was received by the Parliamentary Speaker, but everything seemed to backfire him as days passed. He thought that he could make the Parliament members side him when the opportunity to reveal his side of ‘the truth’ about Muhyiddin Yassin is given, yet sadly that was not the case.

During the Parliament sitting on 18 May, Tun Mahathir was even more openly embarrassed when he was reminded by His Majesty The King of his own carelessness when he let go of the premiership position despite being persuaded by His Majesty to reconsider. In his address, His Majesty told the members of the House that due to Tun Mahathir’s resignation, His Majesty had to decide what was best for the people and country quickly and democratically based on the Constitution thorough a process involving meeting all MPs individually and asking them about their preference of a prime minister candidate, until Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed as Prime Minister. This historical act by His Majesty has proved and redefined the extent of the Ruler’s caring nature and accountability toward the people, unlike that of Tun Mahathir who had let the people down. Logically, who should His Majesty trust in selecting the right premier candidate if not the MPs? Technically, how could His Majesty trust and reappoint Tun Mahathir after the latter’s shameful abandonment of the country? Tun Mahathir not should have glitched in the first place by just saying that his party rejected him knowing very well he had the confidence of the House to remain as Prime Minister. Wasn’t it clear enough to Tun Mahathir that he had failed the people and let down His Majesty’s trust, again? To note, remember his previous resignations? Had he not let down so many people in the past? And why is he now madly making statements each day against Muhyiddin Yassin and his camp, and PN?

It is clear that Tun Mahathir’s old-age temper is getting the worst out of him now as seen in the press conference held after the Parliament sitting on Monday. He kept on making blunders in his statements, which showed that he was not in his best state of mind. If he knew that he was right, why resigned as prime minister in February? If he was true to his words and sincere to the people, why didn’t he pass the premiership baton to Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim? If he knew that Muhyiddin Yassin would go against his will in Bersatu in the party’s meeting and his hands were tied, why didn’t he just admit his weaknesses back then and resort to winning the people’s trust on Pakatan Harapan (PH) by acknowledging Anwar Ibrahim as his rightful successor? The problems that occur today are purely the products of his greed for power.
