The short Parliament sitting on 18 May saw His Majesty The King’s commendable address being attentively listened to and applauded by the members. The two sides of the House were filled up sparingly by the members with Perikatan Nasional (PN) headed by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin while Pakatan Harapan (PH) by Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Surprisingly, next to Muhyiddin Yassin was Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali, the man who was responsible for the Sheraton Move in February 2020, which gave way to the former to lead the country as Prime Minister. Nonetheless, fellow members of the House know that the second seat on the first row is usually allocated for the deputy prime minister, but unfortunately such position was not made as Muhyiddin Yassin appointed four senior ministers to help him run the country. If that is the case, why was Azmin Ali seated there?
The question is, how come the priority second seat was given to Azmin Ali but not Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri or any other prominent UMNO leaders who have more MP seats and support to Muhyiddin Yassin? The noisy ruckus prior to the Parliament session today displayed some sort of confusion among the members about their seating. The UMNO warlords must have been puzzled with why they were not offered the priority seats. UMNO must be furious and annoyed that Azmin Ali sat next to the prime minister comfortably. Isn’t that a hint that he would be next in line for the premiership? If yes, can UMNO be pleased by this knowing that Azmin Ali has not been functioning any better than Ismail Sabri? What about GPS who had given Muhyiddin Yassin the crucial support required to form the government? Why weren’t they given a chance to sit next to the premier? Where has their face value gone? Has Muhyiddin Yassin really cared about their wanting?
Well, Muhyiddin Yassin was lucky that His Majesty The King ‘backed him up’ in the session on Monday. Nevertheless, his uncomfortable, lowered-gaze gestures and quick move out of the House right after His Majesty’s address proved that he did not dare to face the opposition team at all. His cowardice was clearly shown even on the first day of Parliament sitting.
