When Tun Mahathir successfully submitted his motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to the Parliamentary Speaker two weeks ago, the former thought he saw light at the end of the tunnel to shake the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government. Warisan president, Dato’ Seri Shafie Apdal, who is a staunch loyalist of Tun Mahathir, also echoed the motion but was rejected by the Speaker as it was against His Majesty King's prerogative power under the Federal Constitution. Once shut down by the Speaker, he quickly apologised to His Majesty. However last Saturday, he once again got on the bad books of His Majesty by claiming to Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders that he was instructed by His Majesty to appoint Tun Mahathir as the 9th Prime Minister. Luckily Shafie Apdal was caught with his bluff. The question is, why is he so persistent to push Tun Mahathir to become the premier once again although he is a close friend of Muhyiddin?
His Majesty The King’s address to the members of Parliament on 18 May was crystal clear. His Majesty reminded all MPs to stop corruption, avoid chaos and badmouthing, not to drag the country into unnecessary shame again as was done by Tun Mahathir, and be more mature in politicking in order to work for the people and make the people trust them. These are some of His Majesty’s ‘grim’ warning to Tun Mahathir to not mess around with “His Majesty’s government” (“Kerajaan Beta”). Most of all, maturity in politics was supposedly expected to be possessed by mature politicians in this country, yet our country has seen otherwise. It was the oldest politician that has shown the least maturity with his dirty tricks, malice and betrayals.
As for the ambitious Shafie Apdal, he is probably vying for a Deputy Prime Minister's post next to Tun Mahathir, hoping that soon he will become Prime Minister once the latter surrenders. Surely Shafie Apdal is also expecting a huge pay off through some sort of grand deal. The way he was pushing the 94-year-old man to become prime minister again was so glaring that signalled his objective to become number two. Although this may sound far from possible, he always believes that Tun Mahathir will back him up in any manner as long as the latter could be in control again. Notice the frequency of praises and instances Tun Mahathir gave in his videos about him? The answer is, very frequent. It displays how close he is to Tun Mahathir’s heart to the extent of posting video calls the latter made with the Warisan president on his social media. In actual fact, Warisan’s pledge of loyalty was even stronger to Tun Mahathir than Pakatan Harapan (PH), and that is why the old man is content with DAP and Amanah in PH and planning to oust Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and PKR. Nevertheless, their attempt to challenge the power and decision of His Majesty in the selection of the Prime Minister was rather suicidal.
