Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to matchmake UMNO and its ally PAS with his camp of Bersatu under Perikatan Nasional (PN) has truly shown that he is still an UMNO by-blood. Remember the last time Tun Mahathir accused him for acquiring the “UMNO disease” for the latter’s close relationship the UMNO warlords and his giveaways of top GLC positions to UMNO leaders and members? This time Muhyiddin Yassin is just proving the claim to be true.
When he was kicked out of the UMNO during Dato’ Seri Najib Razak’s reign, Muhyiddin Yassin could have just staged an act. Perhaps then he could be someone big in a new party, which is Bersatu, next to Tun Mahathir, with the impression that he was victimized by Najib Razak. Poor Pakatan Harapan (PH), through Tun Mahathir’s leadership, put their trust in Muhyiddin Yassin until the clash in Bersatu became glaring, which then affected Tun Mahathir’s position as a party chairman and the country’s premier and caused PH to lose against PN in February 2020. Was it a sweet revenge for Muhyiddin Yassin when he did this? What was his motivation to do so?
For someone who came out of UMNO’s womb, either forced or willingly, there are always similar traits in that individual that many have to be careful with. Among others are greed and deceit. Perhaps to Malays, UMNO was or is still a possible medium for them to be famous, rich, or powerful, and their way of achieving it is always done maliciously. For example, there is always a ‘percentage cut’ from the sum of money being used for projects and contracts by the kleptocratic politicians, in which the underprivileged ones will never get. A hundred-ringgit allocation for a poor man during the MCO will never be a hundred-ringgit-worth when it reaches the poor man as the allocation ‘cuts’ will go into the pockets of the ‘administrators’. Even worse, these are done by the so-called Malay Muslim politicians onto the people of the same race. UMNO has not been fair to the Malay community when it comes to money and opportunities as these are always being given and circulated among the same circle of blood-sucking politicians. Well this is just a small example of UMNO’s doings. There are huge ones that many have just turned a blind eye by claiming that it is a ‘normal practice’ to the highest level.
Those members who have been labelled as the kleptocrats such as Najib Razak, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor, and Dato’ Sri Bung Mokhtar are some of the famous names with numerous money-related court cases. These are only some instances of the big fishes in the party, while many other ‘small frys’ are following their footsteps too. This is plain shameful! The people’s mandate in 2018 clearly rejected kleptocracy and its ideology! And Muhyiddin Yassin is defying that historic hope!
Needless to say, Muhyiddin Yassin is still proud of his UMNO blood as he is now slowly coming back into the party’s arms despite being aware of its repercussions. His nodding to Najib Razak’s instructions is a signal to allowing corruption to return to this country. How could he do that? Has he no conscious of who and what he is dealing with? Or… was his departure from UMNO back then was just staged according to Najib Razak’s script so that he could avenge for the latter against Tun Mahathir and PH? Indeed, Malaysians have been fooled by these politicians over and over again.
