Insufficient Budget Allocation - Heartless Prime Minister

Malaysian Mirror       Thursday, April 30, 2020

Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri today said that the new SOP by the National Security Council (NSC) will be implemented in the green zones and interestingly consideration was given for the operation of pawnshops. But why were pawnshops given consideration when they are providers of non essential service?

The reality is people are only allowed to go out within their home area, they cannot go out to work, their loan repayment has been frozen, and schools and businesses remain closed. Ultimately, they basically need money to buy food. Even tailors are closed, unable to receive tailoring bookings for Hari Raya. So why are pawnshops essential?

During his announcement of the Bantuan Prihatin Stimulus Package, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin gave assurance that a typical B40 household would receive RM2,200-00 during the Movement Control Order which will run for 56 days. Hence a typical household of four would receive less than RM40-00 per day to cover their three meals, household expenses and water and electricity bills. Is that feasible for any family of four to go bye? The answer lies in Ismail Sabri’s statement. The Government realized that its impossible and has given the typical family additional avenue to use up their own saving. First by allowing them to drain RM500-00 of their EPF savings and now to pawn their jewelry for their survival and to celebrate Hari Raya.

Why is our prime minister heartless? In deed, the truth is families and businesses are suffering. All SME loans under the package has been taken up by few connected individuals. Businesses continue to pay hefty rentals with zero income. The RM10 billion fiscal injection by the government for the duration of the MCO is too little allow the B40 household to put food on the table.

His heartless neglect of the sufferings proves he is not people-centric but rather playing politics to save his seat and buying his MPs. Otherwise why is he scared to call an urgent Parliament sitting for additional budget allocation to relieve the people’s suffering?
